Personal Finance Firms – Unfair say consumers

“Financial services getting more unfair” say consumers

*****************

I have posted the article in full below as I firmly believe some of the changes going in the Financial Services industry will be to the detriment of the Consumer of Financial Products. If not immediately then over the coming years.

As a Personal  Finance Expert it is clear that most Consumers are not getting what they want from the industry.

I could of course make several cases to support my cause, however Abbey Life Personal Pension are one, should I go on?

The Consumer Panel has today published new research1 which reveals a perceived decline in fairness in financial services.

Financial services compared poorly to the retail sector, with consumers considering financial services as less fair, being insufficiently competitive or accessible.

Particularly unfair were complex products, such as some insurance products, or those with disproportionate charges, such as store cards. Issues highlighted by the research include concern over the loss of the personalised individual service, personified by “old fashioned bank managers”, as well as worries over the treatment of vulnerable customers and the failure to reward loyal customers with products that deliver.

Participants wanted to see financial services customers treated fairly with transparent information, responsible marketing, fair pricing and good ongoing customer care. Sales processes should be low pressure, tailored to individual needs and there should be easy and convenient after sales service. The Consumer Panel will be organising a round table discussion in July to discuss the findings of the research in more detail.

Adam Phillips, Consumer Panel Chair commented:

“Financial services are an essential part of life so it is no wonder that consumers regard treating customers fairly with such importance. It is very worrying that the public still believe they are not getting a fair deal and that there is a perception matters are getting worse.

“The industry needs to do more to increase transparency, giving customers clear and meaningful information, so that they see an improvement in standards of customer service.

“Government must adequately address fairness in financial services as part of its wholesale reorganisation of regulation. The new Consumer Protection and Markets Authority must learn from this research and from the FSA’s successes and failures.

“The Consumer Panel has recently set out a ten point plan detailing how we believe financial services could be made better. We hope that our suggestions and the evidence provided by this research will give new impetus to improving outcomes for consumers.”

….and so say all of us.

Abbey Life Executive Pensions | Executive Pension Plans | Richard Smith

Abbey Life Executive Pensions have been under review by me for sometime and as I am sure you have seen in recent months there have been a good level of comment and information from me about Abbey Life amongst a range of other providers listed here for you. This list is not exhaustive. Please contact me in order to discuss other Pension Providers.

Certainly there many issues in relation to the level of charges within these Executive Pension Plans, importantly many of these were set up/arranged by Experts that had little knowledge of the options or more importantly the best type of contract for yourself or your business.

I have seen in recent months some of these plans and can assure you, they are bad.

Given that many Pension Firms are now closed to new business and/or no longer offering any form of financial planning advice you now have perhaps the best opportunity to review your options.

Now I am not saying that any of these closed providers or their Experts made inappropriate recommendations to invest in Executive Style Pension Schemes however have collected a lot of anecdotal evidence that some or more of these plans have been Miss Sold, or certainly Miss Bought.

Over the past months I have compiled my evidence and can provide some guidance to you.

Now if you have purchased and Executive Style Pension Plan in  the last 20 years (that’s  since 1990) and if you are coming up to Retirement and you have not been advised of your options in relation to these plans you should contact me immediately for some further guidance.
